She is extremely self confident when conversing, negotiating, perhaps also intimidating classmates and teachers alike. Kanamori is an over-serious realist who is obsessively thinking up money making schemes. Sayaka Kanamori - A contrast to Asakusa in height and attitude. Inspired by anime, and the unique city she grew up in, she is absolutely obsessed with world building. She is shy and a bit of a space cadet, constantly lost in her imagination as she creates bigger worlds out of the world she observes around her in her sketchbooks. Midori Asakusa - She is probably closest to the protagonist of the three main characters. However, that’s about as tropey as they get. The shows main lineup is the standard trio (eventually joined by a fourth) of high school girls. Considering the fact that there are many scenes dedicated purely to sound editing and capture, I am once again convinced that a sound engineer had a lot of input into this show. When a character is wildly gesturing, as they often do in this show, the sound of fabric moving and footfalls is really well done, better than many live action sound design.

This is compounded with really excellent sound design throughout the show.

It’s like the ultimate plug in your headphones and get to work sound track. However its the music played throughout the episodes that I found to be most impactful. The opening theme is super catchy (not to mention would be a great music video on its own). The music was produced by Oorutaichi, and I really, really like it. While I really enjoyed the visuals of this show, I really have to think a sound engineer played a huge role in its creation. Detail is applied where it is most impactful, and I believe there is an element of using this art style that eases the viewer into setting expectations aside and allowing them to go on the journey with the characters in the show. The “simple” style also really allows the artists to run wild with the character’s imaginations, while still maintaining consistency. Just because it’s “simple” (I really need to brainstorm a better word), doesn’t mean it does not achieve some really spectacular, and engaging scenes and imagery. I think it’s a choice that works really well. But personally, I think it was an artistic choice (which budget and time constraints may have some play in). I can understand how someone would think this is a drawback to the show. While the characters are often focused on creating highly realistic scenes with anatomically accurate movements, the anime uses a fairly “simplistic” (for lack of a better word I can’t think of) style. If I have seen any points of contention on this series, it’s on the art itself.

Not to worry though, it’s still an anime, so it comes with things as you might expect such as an overpowered student council and a school seemingly completely run by student clubs. The show expresses the characters imaginations vividly, and takes us on a tour on how their creative process works. However, this anime is far from the dry, matter of fact style of presentation as that. For me, I find shows like How It’s Made to be extremely satisfying, almost therapeutic. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is a show I would recommend to anyone, really, but I think it’s especially good for people who have worked on large scale creative projects, or are even just interested in the methods of creating things in general. They must overcome the hurdles of the reality of production and high school politics. Rapid Plot Overview: A High School slice of life comedy about three girls who set out to create their own anime.
